Podcast 108 – Mansun 'Six' interview with Paul Draper

The “stupidest album ever released by a pop group” according to chart-topping singer-songwriter Paul Draper, is his own sophomore effort ‘Six’ from his band Mansun. Hear Paul’s memories  of a sprawling literate-prog meisterwerk  paid for by The Beatles’ label; The Doctor from Doctor Who, the world’s leading glass orchestra, and Eric Clapton’s beans on toast. Does he like it, 21 years on? “It’s too early to say”, apparently…

You'll hear music from 'Six', (4-disc book-set OUT NOW) plus forthcoming BRAND NEW releases spun herein from Gong, Daniel Tompkins (from TesseracT) and a track from the new album from Porcupine Tree’s Colin Edwin – i.e. O.R.k.

Oh, and Tom baker too.

Listen as we hear from Bruce Soord at Waterloo station on his way to Paris to begin the promotion of The Pineapple Thief’s new LP ‘Dissolution’, which is OUT NOW! It is an album which looks at all sides of the communication revolution, a close-up of distance, a record which is the equal of many classics of English melancholy. Bruce and Billy discuss the dichotomy of social media, the art of band discipline, and cheese.

PLUS we hear a brand new White Moth Black Butterfly remix, a teaser from Gazpacho, and forthcoming music from Nosound.

Hello and welcome to the first Kscope Podcast of 2016.

PLENTY going on at the label this year!

We start with an introduction to Catherine Anne Davies PhD, Simple Minds’ keyboardist, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, PKA as The Anchoress for her debut album out now on Kscope,‘Confessions of a Romance Novelist’ – which is “sneaking big ideas past the listeners of daytime radio” (Q Magazine).

Some of the LP was co-produced and written with Mansun’s creative force Paul Draper (Catherine is currently helping Paul with his first solo album) so we’ll hear how the two met - as well as Catherine’s forthright opinions on gender in rock.

PLUS a track from the current album from Steven Wilson AND an update on the current Kscope artists on tour.

IT’S ALL HAPPENING!

Kscope Podcast 69 features an interview with and music from Bruce Soord of The Pineapple Thief.
After 10 albums as TPT Bruce has made a beautiful “threadbare epic” solo album and it’s out now. The songs were recorded in and influenced by growing up in a classic, small, isolated English town, and how both writer and the town have changed in recent times.
Plus the first new music in 17 years from Richard Barbieri & Steve Jansen(once of Japan), Anathema live in Liverpool Cathedral (a lead vocal from the wonderful Lee Douglas) and a track from the forthcoming The Anchoress album where Catherine Ann Davies is joined on vocals by Paul Draper from Mansun.
AND some Steven Wilson news…
